Parenting Through Mental Health Challenges

September 15, 2026 by herewegotherapy

As a parent, noticing changes in your child’s behavior, mood, or overall well-being can be incredibly concerning. You want to help, but sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. We understand the worry and uncertainty you might be feeling, and we hope these steps help guide you through supporting your child’s mental health:

  • Pay close attention to any changes in your child’s behavior, sleep patterns, appetite, social interactions, etc. (we know, easier said than done). Listen to what they say and how they say it – you know your kid, and sometimes, subtle hints can reveal a lot about their emotional state.
  • Create a safe, non-judgmental space for your child to express their feelings. Let them know that it’s okay to talk about their worries and that you’re there to support them, no matter what.
  • Understanding mental health issues can help you better support your child. Read up on common mental health conditions and signs. The more you know, the better equipped you’ll be to recognize and address any potential problems.
  • Promote a balanced lifestyle that includes regular physical activity, a healthy diet, sufficient sleep, and time for relaxation and fun (again, easier said than done, especially if you have a teenager). These can all positively impact mental health.
  • Mental health challenges can take time to understand and manage. Be patient with your child and with yourself. Offering consistent love and support is crucial.

If your concerns persist or if your child’s symptoms are severe, don’t hesitate to seek professional help. Our therapists at Here We Go are here to support both you and your child with professional guidance, counseling, and resources. Get the conversation going by contacting us.

Sneaky Signs of Codependency

April 5, 2026 by herewegotherapy

Codependency can be sneaky, and it often shows up in ways that feel caring or selfless – but beneath the surface, it might be messing with your boundaries. Besides the “classic” signs of codependency, like having trouble saying no or neglecting your own wants and needs, there are some others that can indicate it’s time to consider if you have codependent traits. Does this sound like you?

  • You’re that person who will show up for everyone (or maybe just your partner), all the time, for everything. Overextended? Exhausted? Yep! But it’s okay, because someone needs you, right? (Cue internal scream.)
  • You’re so focused on how others feel that you lose touch with your own emotions. It might be hard for you to recognize what you want or how you really feel, making it easy to follow others’ lead.
  • On that note, you’re hyper-aware of others’ moods and may feel anxious trying to manage or soothe them. Someone’s having a bad day… or just acting a little differently than normal? You’re already on the case, trying to fix it, soothe it, or make sure it’s not your fault.
  • You’re the unofficial life coach, therapist, and problem-solver for everyone around you. Got a friend in a crisis? You’re already pulling out the whiteboard to solve their life for them – meanwhile, your own to-do list is gathering dust.

It can be hard to come to terms with codependent tendencies – realizing you’ve been putting others ahead of yourself for so long is a tough pill to swallow. The good news? You don’t have to figure it out alone. Therapy can help you unpack these patterns, set healthier boundaries, and *finally* start putting yourself first without feeling guilty. You’ll learn to spot those sneaky habits, challenge them, and build relationships that are balanced and fulfilling.

If you’re ready to get some support and start working toward healthier relationships – with others AND yourself – therapy is a great first step. Reach out today to get started.
