Sneaky Signs of Codependency

April 5, 2026 by herewegotherapy

Codependency can be sneaky, and it often shows up in ways that feel caring or selfless – but beneath the surface, it might be messing with your boundaries. Besides the “classic” signs of codependency, like having trouble saying no or neglecting your own wants and needs, there are some others that can indicate it’s time to consider if you have codependent traits. Does this sound like you?

  • You’re that person who will show up for everyone (or maybe just your partner), all the time, for everything. Overextended? Exhausted? Yep! But it’s okay, because someone needs you, right? (Cue internal scream.)
  • You’re so focused on how others feel that you lose touch with your own emotions. It might be hard for you to recognize what you want or how you really feel, making it easy to follow others’ lead.
  • On that note, you’re hyper-aware of others’ moods and may feel anxious trying to manage or soothe them. Someone’s having a bad day… or just acting a little differently than normal? You’re already on the case, trying to fix it, soothe it, or make sure it’s not your fault.
  • You’re the unofficial life coach, therapist, and problem-solver for everyone around you. Got a friend in a crisis? You’re already pulling out the whiteboard to solve their life for them – meanwhile, your own to-do list is gathering dust.

It can be hard to come to terms with codependent tendencies – realizing you’ve been putting others ahead of yourself for so long is a tough pill to swallow. The good news? You don’t have to figure it out alone. Therapy can help you unpack these patterns, set healthier boundaries, and *finally* start putting yourself first without feeling guilty. You’ll learn to spot those sneaky habits, challenge them, and build relationships that are balanced and fulfilling.

If you’re ready to get some support and start working toward healthier relationships – with others AND yourself – therapy is a great first step. Reach out today to get started.

The Complex Grief of Parent-Child Relationships

March 16, 2026 by herewegotherapy

Grieving the parents we wish we had is a profound and complex journey, often partnered with a deep longing for the love, understanding, and support we may have yearned for but didn’t receive. You might get hit with waves of sadness, anger, regret, and wishing for something that feels like it was missing from life.

One of the hardest parts of this grieving process is trying to navigate the balance between honoring our own feelings and also understanding the complexities of our parents’ lives. We may wrestle with conflicting emotions, simultaneously feeling resentment or disappointment towards your parents while also having empathy for them – after all, they’re just as human as we are.

In the midst of this grief, it’s important to allow ourselves space for self-compassion and validation. It’s okay to mourn the loss of the nurturing, supportive parent-child relationship we may have yearned for. It’s okay to acknowledge the pain of feeling misunderstood or unseen by the very people who were supposed to provide us with unconditional love and acceptance.

Ultimately, the journey of grieving the parents we wish we had is deeply personal. And while the pain of unmet needs may never fully disappear, there is hope in the possibility of finding healing, connection, and fulfillment in other relationships and within ourselves.

As we move through the grief process, it can be helpful to seek support from others who can provide empathy, validation, and understanding. Therapy can offer a safe space to explore our emotions, process our experiences, and gain insight into how our past relationships may be impacting our present lives. At Here We Go, our team is ready and able to walk alongside you while you heal – visit our Contact page to give it a try.
